About Labyrinths in Stone
Artistic Pavers, Inc. was established in 1987 by Marty Kermeen and his wife,
Debi. Initially, Marty specialized in residential installations: driveways,
patios and walkways, retaining walls, and water features.
In 1998, Marty and Debi were introduced to the labyrinth by a client who wanted
one built for a church. Having never built a labyrinth, they began intensive
research to prepare for the project. In the process, they realized the sacredness
of the undertaking, and this realization changed the course of their lives — and
the business.
After successfully completing his first labyrinth (Naperville Millennium Labyrinth),
Marty also realized that he was no longer just an installer of concrete pavers
- he is an artist who uses the pavers as a medium, much like an artist uses
paint
on canvas.
Today, Labyrinths in Stone (a division of Artistic Pavers, Inc.) specializes
in the design and installation of labyrinth works of art. As Marty states, “Our
mission is to create superior works of art in a variety of paving materials
that beautify any space. We are passionate about our daily quest to leave our
mark on this planet. It is our sincere hope that our grandchildren will view
these works of art and be proud of the beauty we created."
Marty and Debi Kermeen make their home in Yorkville, IL, with their daughters,
Brittany and Chloe, and their dogs, Arthur and Merlin.

Artist’s Statement
As a stone sculptor, I specialize in the creation and installation of complex
designs, including labyrinths. My mission is to create superior works of art
in a variety of paving and landscape materials that withstand the tests of
time. It is my belief that hand sculpting enhances the individual character
of the rock and leaves the imprint of the stonecutter’s soul. I am passionate
about my daily quest to leave a unique mark on this planet for the benefit
of all, now and for generations to come.
